Barbican: Beauty is in the eye of the leaseholder

NYCLondon is now beaming live to you from The Barbican, London’s sprawling modernist megacomplex of concrete. Sporadic posting will continue while I try to get telecommunications sorted out (and become acquainted with the Garchey).

The Barbican is either revered or despised, depending on who you talk to. There are many websites explaining the quirks of the Barbican, most notably Barbican Living.

The whole place looks ready for many photo jaunts. Had a walk around today, several photos follow.

Election Day 2004

Freedom of speech? Not anymore. Fed up with dealing with 1000+ blogspams per week, I’ve closed all comments on anything older than a couple of weeks. (blogspams are comments that lead to spammers sites, and usually leak ‘pagerank’). That is a shame, as I am always happy to receive comments and try to respond to each one personally. You can still use the feedback facility.

Anyway, it is election day in the US. These days elections make me feel strange. I haven’t lived in my birth country since last century, yet I still get to say who rules tiny pockets of it. I continue to vote, but is it really fair? I lived in the US for 5 years and never got a say. Now I live in the UK and have no direct vote, despite paying as much tax as anyone else, and despite all my ancestors being from here. That’s internationalism for you, right now.

So I’ve dragged up a few relevant pix from the time I lived there. I was always fascinated by the whole flag iconography thing you have going on over there.

As for the lack of recent site updates, things have been very busy for me offline. Things should settle down in a week or two, and there’ll be a new deluge of pics.
