Flashmob London

“Flash Mobs are seemingly unplanned gatherings of large groups of people that converge in public (or semipublic) places for brief periods of time. All members of a Flash Mob simultaneously converge to form the mob and then quickly disperse again at a given time, all members departing in different directions.” - London Flash Mob organising site.

In the summer of 2003 the flash mob was born in New York City. Inspired by Howard Rheingold’s Smart Mobs and drawing upon the success of the web-organised anti-war protest movement, they quickly became a media sensation.

London staged several flash mobs from August through November. You can see many photos of them individually here:

Flash Mob #001: Hundreds of people invade a sofa store on Tottenham Court Rd in London’s first Flash mob.
Flash Mob #002: Jubilee bridge gets the mob treatment as large crowds shout ‘Ahoy!’ to Thames traffic.
Flash Mob #003: “Bookcrossing” event, flash mobbers swap hundreds of books with each other in London’s Soho Square.
